On 28 September 2012 at the Residence of the ambassador of Brunei, all ASEAN Embassies including Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao PDR and Myanmar jointly hosted ASEAN Day and ASEAN Family Day from 16.00-20.00 hrs. The event began with ASEAN flag-raising ceremony, welcoming remarks by Ambassador of Cambodia, Chairman of ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC), and a reception to celebrate ASEAN Day, followed by a host of joyful activities and games among ASEAN Family members. Approximately 200 people attended the event, including ASEAN Ambassadors, diplomats, local staff and their family members and distinguished guests.
This year’s ASEAN Day celebration represented the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN on 8 August 2012. The ASEAN Family Day, on the other hand, symbolized the close and cordial relations among ASEAN diplomats and families in Brussels, the solidarity of which will further strengthen ASEAN unity in advancing the common interests of ASEAN with the Belgian government and the European Union, as well as promote a true sense of the ASEAN Community, to be established in 2015.
