On 23 January 2012, Ambassador / Head of Thai Mission to the European Union (EU) accompanied by Ms. Pimchanok Vonkhorporn, Commercial Minister, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade to introduce himself as new Thai Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg / Head of Thai Mission to the EU and discussed how to further promote Thai – EU economic relations and cooperation. One of the main highlights from the discussion was the Ambassador?s request for the EU to expeditiously implement the agreement with Thailand on poultry quota import into the EU by 1 July 2012. Mr. De Gucht expressed his support and explained that the European Commission has already sent its proposal for the implementation of the agreement on poultry quota import with Thailand for the consideration of the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament, which would hopefully be approved soon. In addition, both sides further expressed their strong commitment to elevate bilateral relations, in particularly through the consideration to open an EU-Thailand FTA negotiation at the earliest opportunity.
