On 13 June 2012, Ambassador Apichart CHINWANNO, together with Ambassadors and Charge d’Affaire from ASEAN Member States visited Strasbourg, France and attended the 3rd Informal Meeting between ASEAN-Brussels Committee (ABC) and European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with ASEAN and Southeast Asia under the chairmanship of MEP, Dr. Werner LANGEN. Issues discussed included perspective for the establishment of an ASEAN Community by 2015, ways and means to strengthen cooperation on human rights, development in the Euro Zone, and how to further promote inter-parliamentary relationship between the European Parliament and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) as well as ASEAN national parliaments. A working lunch was also held between ASEAN ambassadors and MEP Barbara LOCHBIHLER, Chair of European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights and MEP Mikael GUSTAFSSON, Chair of European Parliament’s Committee on Women where both sides exchanged views on the current human rights situation in their respective region, as well as explored possible areas where inter-regional cooperation in the field of human rights could be further strengthened in the future.
