European Seafood Expo 2012

On 24 April 2012, Ambassador Apichart Chinwanno, together with Heads of Office of Agricultural Affairs, Commercial Affairs, and Science and Technology, as well as diplomatic staff of the Royal Thai Embassy, Brussels, accompanied H.E. Mr. Phum Saraphol Deputy Minister of Commerce to attend the “European Seafood Exposition 2012” at the Brussels Exhibition Centre, Brussels.

The Deputy Minister of Commerce visited and joined a reception at the “Thai Pavilion”—designed in the shape of a fishing vessel by the Department of International Trade Promotion to house the booths of Thai seafood exhibitors participating in this year’s Expositions which included The Union Frozen Products, Thaveevong Industry, Surapon Foods Public, Sea Wealth Frozen Food, S.P.A. International Food Group, S.K. Foods (Thailand), S.M.P. Food Products, P.B. Fishery Products and May AO Foods.

On 26 April 2012, Ambassador Apichart Chinwanno gave welcome remarks at the seminar on “Thailand’s Seafood: Safe and Sustainable”, co-organised by the  Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Office of Agricultural Affairs in Brussels, which aimed at boosting European importers and consumers’ confidence in the high quality seafood products from Thailand. At the seminar, Dr. Waraporn Phrompoj, senior expert on international fisheries affairs, Department of Fisheries, delivered a talk on “Thailand’s Seafood Meets the International Standards” while Dr. Panisuan Chamnanvej, President of Thai Frozen Foods Association, spoke on the topic “Thailand’s Seafood Created for the World Market”.

The seminar also benefited from a round table discussion entitled “Thailand Seafood: in the European Eyes”, which included distinguished speakers from diverse fields such as Prof. Patrick Sorgeloos, fisheries expert from Ghent University; Mr. Patrick Deboyser, Advisor to Director General DG Health & Consumers Protection or DG SANCO, European Commission; Mr. Yves Mattagne, Michelin star chef; Mr. Oliver Hottlet from the Hottlet Frozen Foods Company; Mrs. Nicki Holmand, journalist from International Seafood Magazine

Since 1993, the European Seafood Exposition has become an annual event and is currently the largest and most prestigious seafood fair in Europe. Each year, the Fair attracts over 1,600 exhibitors from all over the world, with a turnover of more than 24,000 visitors.
