On 26 March 2013, Ambassador Apichart Chinwanno chaired the meeting aimed at presenting the insight derived from the draft study on ‘Investment Protection Chapter in the upcoming EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement’, and brainstorming views and comments on the study. In this regard, Deputy Director-General Sansanee Sahussarungsi of the Department of International Economic Affairs delivered a welcoming remarks to the participants from 20 stakeholder government/private organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok.
The draft study is presented by Ms. Eugenia Constanza Laurenza from Fratini Vergano, a renowned Brussels-based law firm which has been commissioned by the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels / Mission of Thailand to the European Union to conduct this study.
On 27 March 2013, Ambassador Apichart Chinwanno delivered an opening remarks for the seminar on ‘A new protection shield for EU-bound Thai investors: What to expect from the current EU investment regime?’. Subsequently, the Deputy Director-General Sansanee Sahussarungsi delivered a welcoming remarks to 70 participants from government agencies and 25 private companies/organizations, at the Pullman Bangkok King Power.
In the morning session, Ms. Eugenia presented insight regarding the investment protection regime of EU, with a particular focus on exitist new EU directives and regulations.
In the afternoon session, the panel disscussion titled ‘Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) under the current EU investment regime: What’s going on out there?’ was held with practiced speakers namely Mr. Jayavadh Bunnag from International Legal Counsellors Thailand Ltd, Mr. Cristopher Thomas, Q.C. from Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore, and Ms. Eugenia. The discussion was moderated by Mrs. Vilawan Mangklatanakul, Director of International Law Development Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
