On 8 June 2014, Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool and Mrs. Annick Lambrecht, Alderman for Mobility, Energy, Sports and Events Policy speaking on behalf of Mayor Renaat Landuyt of Bruges, delivered opening remarks at the “Discover Thailand in Bruges” event at Markt Square, Bruges, Belgium. Building on the success of last year’s event, The Thai Learning Center (TLC), with the cooperation and support of the City of Bruges and friends of Thailand in Belgium, organized this event for the second time to promote Thai culture, tourism, as well as trade and investment opportunities in Thailand. Visitors were entertained with a variety of Thai food, fruits and vegetables, as well as Thai handicrafts and accessories. Many activities were held throughout the day, such as cultural and musical performances on stage, traditional Thai massage, and Thai fruit and vegetable carving. Visitors also had the chance to participate in free workshops to learn how to carve fruit and vegetables.
A minute of silence was also observed for Mikey Peeters, a 19 year old student who was stabbed to death at Markt Square on 30 May 2014 and Ambassador Nopadol and Mrs. Sophit Tubtim, Thai Learning Center, laid flowers at the scene where the incident took place.
