On 10 September 2014, His Excellency Mr. E. Rodney M. Perera, the Ambassador Designate to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Head of Mission to European Union, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool. Welcoming his Sri Lankan counterpart to Belgium, Ambassador Nopadol expressed his appreciation for the close relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka. The Ambassadors touched on the issue of lengthy visa application procedures in Europe, which needs to be addressed in order to promote tourism and encourage business activity. Ambassador Nopadol also noted that through Buddhism, Thailand and Sri Lanka share a common bond. Both Ambassadors expressed their wish to strengthen the relations between the two communities through the organization of Buddhist events in Belgium.
