On Tuesday 28 July 2015 at 15.00, Mr. Chea Thireak, Ambassador of Cambodia to Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria and the European Union, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool at the Royal Thai Embassy. Ambassador Chea arrived in Brussels a few months ago after a long career in the Francophonie Department at the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
They exchanged views on the relations between Thailand and Cambodia, and the cooperation between the two countries in many fields. Ambassador Nopadol recalled that when he visited Cambodia in 2013, he found that much progress had been made in national development. Phnom Penh and Siem Reap were prosperous with the livelihoods of the Cambodian people having flourished greatly in the recent years. The Cambodian Ambassador remarked that the increasing co-operations along the Thai-Cambodian border helps to maintain the constant connection and friendship between the two countries.
Ambassador Nopadol pointed out that Thailand will take over from Vietnam as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-EU relations from August 2015 to 2018, so he hopes to work closely with all ASEAN missions in Brussels to present a common stance when the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) interacts with the EU. Ambassador Nopadol said he would welcome suggestions from Cambodia regarding any possible activities. With regard to Luxembourg, Ambassador Nopadol also spoke about working very hard for the ABC to have constant contact with Luxembourg, and in March this year, he asked the Philippines as Chairman of the ABC to host a working lunch with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg. Next April, under Thailand’s Chairmanship, he will do the same.
As neighboring countries, both Ambassadors agreed that Thailand and Cambodia will continue to work together on many issues and will carry on supporting each other closely.
