On 29 March 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels, together with Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and Office of Science and Technology (Brussels), co-organized a seminar on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of Thailand-Belgium Friendship (1868-2018) entitled “Thailand-Belgium Innovation Partnership for the Future”. The seminar aims at building the network of governments, researchers, and practitioners in Thailand and Belgium to foster research collaboration as well as exchange ideas and expertise.

The seminar is divided into four segments: Waste-to-Energy, Food Innovation, Digital Economy and Technology Transfer, featuring 3 main activities; academic conference, focus-group workshops and site visits.

With Belgium’s strong expertise in Circular Economy Innovation which aims to use and manage resources in a more durable and sustainable way, the Embassy joined forces with TRF to introduce the first pilot project on Waste to Energy between a renowned Belgian research Institute “VITO” (The Flemish Institute for Technological Research) and Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP) to convert macadamia and coffee husk into new products such as energy and Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM). The project is expected to commence within 2018.

On this occasion, the Ambassador of Thailand also met with the H.E. Mr. Robert Lauer, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Philippe Kridelka, Ambassador Belgium to Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Prikka Tapiola, Ambassador of EU to Thailand, to discuss about the close bilateral relations and cooperation between Thailand and Luxembourg, Belgium and EU respectively.
