World Bank director commends Thailand for its work to improve ease of doing business

BANGKOK, 16th May 2018 (NNT) – The World Bank has praised the Thai government for its work to improve the ease of doing business in Thailand.

World Bank Director for Regional Partnerships, Malaysia, and Thailand, Ulrich Zachau and the World Bank’s ease of doing business team on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The two parties discussed close cooperation between Thailand and World Bank for more than 70 years in terms of investment, education, bureaucratic development, labor and economic reform. They agreed to continue to work together with a focus on equal income distribution and improvements to the business environment in Thailand to make it more convenient.

The World Bank director commended the Thai government for making significant changes to government services to become more conducive to investment and business, resulting in the country’s better ranking in the World Bank’s ease of doing business index, at 26th place in 2018 compared to 46th in 2017

Mr. Zachau also met with Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam to exchange views on the Business Security Act as well as the digital publication of verdicts. Mr. Wissanu informed the World Bank director of the progress of the law and expressed the country’s willingness to welcome the World Bank’s suggestions.
