Labor Min signs MOU on developing skilled workers for EEC

CHONBURI, 21 May 2018, (NNT) – Thailand’s Labor Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with educational institutions on developing workers’ skills, in preparation for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

Signing the MOU at the Eastern College of Technology in Chonburi province were Permanent Secretary for Labor, Jarin Chakkaphark, and representatives from several colleges. The MOU allows participants to work together to enhance the skills of workers by offering suitable classes and training programs.

The Department of Employment will work with educational institutes and entrepreneurs to promote employment and education among skilled workers. Permanent Secretary Jarin explained that business owners will encourage their employees to pursue higher education. He said colleges would schedule appropriate courses for these individuals. Jarin is confident that the Pracharat campaign will significantly raise the quality of laborers while improving the skills of Thai workers nationwide.

The Permanent Secretary for Labor stressed the importance of developing skilled workers, in preparation for the advent of the EEC and the implementation of the 20-year national strategic plan. He said the three EEC provinces, namely Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong, still need about 20,000 skilled laborers. Mr. Jarin said that his Ministry will meet with concerned agencies about the matter starting next month.
