BANGKOK, 22nd May 2018 (NNT) – The meeting of the Subcommittee on World Cultural Heritage acknowledged the progress made in preparing documents related to the proposal to get Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan temple in southern Thailand inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The meeting was chaired by the Culture Minister, Vira Rojpojchanarat, on Tuesday (May 22nd).
Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan temple is located in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. It is currently on the World Heritage Center’s tentative list.
Currently, the Thai documents have already been prepared, and they are being translated into English by the Department of Fine Arts.
Mr. Vira said the meeting also acknowledged the findings of a study conducted on the stupa using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) equipment. They will be used for justifying the outstanding universal value of Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan temple.
