PPP Commission approves investment in two transport hubs

BANGKOK, 10th August 2018 (NNT) – The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Commission has approved two more investment projects to build transport stations worth a combined 4.19 billion baht, allowing the proposal to be put before Cabinet for further consideration.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Somkid Jatusripitak chaired the latest meeting of the PPP Commission, which focused on approving investment in eight projects earmarked for the commission’s fast track program, which still has 400 billion baht available for investment this year. The meeting discussed the 366.274 billion baht Purple and Orange train line extensions and the 79 billion baht Nakhon Pathom-Cha Am Motorway project.

The motorway project was deemed to be unclear on whether it would be a concession or owned by the Department of Highways, and the Ministry of Transport has been asked to review the details and resubmit proposals in September.

The two projects approved at the meeting were both part of the Department of Land Transport’s transport hub development effort. The first is a 1.361 billion baht transport hub to be set up in Nakhon Panom while the second is a 2.829 billion baht goods transition center in Chiang Rai. Both are now to be put to the Cabinet.

The PPP Commission is to meet again in September to consider the over 300 billion baht fast track investment request for the Purple and Orange train line extensions. If approved, the body would be allotted between 400 and 500 billion baht this year.
