On 27 August 2019, the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels, in cooperation with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand and the support from the Belgian-Luxembourg/Thai Chamber of Commerce, organized a seminar entitled “Trade & Investment Opportunities between Thailand, Benelux Countries and France in Preparation for the Future Thai-EU FTA” at Anantara Siam Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
H.E. Mr. Manasvi Srisodapol, Ambassador of Thailand to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Dr. Jingjai Hanchanlash, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, Mr. Sasiwat Wongsinsawat, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Kejpiroon Kohsuwan gave welcoming and introductory remarks at the seminar.
This seminar is intended to mobilize interest for a planned business mission by the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand to the Benelux and France in 2020. The seminar aims to identify key sectors and potential industries in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and France for Thai businesses, in anticipation of the resumption of Thai-EU FTA in the near future.
Ambassadors from the European Union, Benelux Countries, and the Economic Counsellor from France discussed the EU perspectives on trade and investment opportunities in these countries. Representatives from Thai companies, Mr. Suwapat Akarasawamek, Assistant Vice President of CPF Europe S.A. and Mr. Peerachote Charanwong, General Manager of Merit Food Products Co., Ltd. / Chairman of Thai Organic Trade Association shared their success stories and challenges faced in reality. Some other distinguished guest speakers include Mr. Philipp Dupuis, Head of the Trade and Economic Affairs, EU Delegation in Bangkok, Ms. Astrid De Keyser, Deputy Director Inward Investment Japan & SE Asia, Flanders Investment & Trade of Belgium, Ms. Sukanya Dutta, Investment Officer, Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency of Belgium, Embassy of Belgium in India, Mr. Laurent Verbiest, Area Manager – Inwards Investment Asia Pacific, Hub Brussels, Mr. Hans van den Born, Executive Director, Netherlands-Thailand Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Jeannot Erpelding, Director of International Affairs, Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce joined in a panel on “Prospects and Challenges for Doing Business in the Benelux and France” to discuss and showcase key industries in relevant countries including the sectors that Thailand has potential. The seminar also provides a platform in which representatives from trade and investment agencies could interact directly with individual Thai companies and an opportunity to network among relevant private and public sectors.
The seminar was also complemented by networking lunch on 28 August 2019 between the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels, representatives from trade and investment agencies and honorary advisors from the Office of Eastern Economic Corridor on an opportunity of investing in Thailand’s newest industrial estate.
