Thai passport application

Thai Passport

Passport Application  (latest update on 5 May 202)

Applicants must come to the Royal Thai Embassy in person for the passport application and may expect 4-6 weeks for the new passport.

Required documents for Thai-national aged 20 years and above

  1. A completed Passport application form (download here)
  2. A completed personal information form (download here)
  3. The latest Thai passport and a copy
  4. Original Thai ID card and a copy ( if you do not have a Thai ID card, please see the “Criteria for passport issuance” below)
  5. A copy of Thai House Registration (Tabian Baan)
  6. A recent photograph, 3*5 cm., white background
  7. Fee: (please prepare exact amount in cash or pay with Bancontact)
    • for a 5-year validity passport, 35 Euros
    • for a 10-year validity passport, 50 Euros
  1. In case of passport loss, a police report which clearly indicates the loss of your Thai passport and passport number is required.
  2. Other relevant documents such as a name-surname change certificate

 

Required documents for Thai-nationals aged below 20 years old

  1. A completed Passport application form (download here)
  2. A completed personal information form (download here)
  3. The latest Thai passport and a copy
  4. A copy of Thai Birth Certificate
  5. A copy of parents’ marriage certificate or the official proof of relationship or the Child Custody Form (Por Kor 14)
  6. If father and mother are Thai national : original Thai ID card and a copy
  7. If father or mother is non-Thai national : original national ID card and a copy
  8. Applicant’s original Thai ID card and a copy ( If the applicant are over 7 years old, an ID card must be presented. If below 7 years old, a House registration with the applicant’s name can be used instead. If other cases, please see “Criteria for passport issuance”)
  9. A copy of Thai House Registration (Tabian Baan) (see remark 1)***
  10. A recent photograph, 3*5 cm., white background
  11. Fee: 35 euros (please prepare exact amount in cash or pay with Bancontact)
  12. Other relevant documents such as a name-surname change certificate

***Remarks*** 

  1. Applicants who were not born in Thailand, have not possessed 13-digit Identification number and have not been registered in a Thai House Registration (Tabian Baan) will only be permitted to apply for their first passport. Application for a second passport requires that the applicant be registered in a Thai House Registration (for more information, please contact passport.brs@mfa.go.th)
  2. Applicants aged below 20 years must be accompanied by both their parents. In case only one parent is present, please provide the following documents :
    • Child Custody Form (Por Kor 14) and a copy; or
    • Divorce Certificate and a copy; or
    • Death Certificate of the deceased parent and a copy; or
    • The original Letter of Consent by the absent parent issued no more than 6 months and a copy of the parent’s Thai ID card (the Letter of Consent can be requested at the Department of Consular Affairs and the District Office in Thailand or at the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate-General in the country where the parent resides).

Criteria for passport issuance

1. Minors aged below 7 years old

1.1 Minors aged below 7 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Never have a Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration

Answer =  Applicants can only request the first Thai passport.

1.2 Minors aged below 7 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Already had the first Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration

Answer =  Applicants cannot request a new passport unless they are registered in the Thai House Registration.

Suggestion =  The Thai parent should register the minor in his/her Thai House Registration or make a power of attorney to authorise relatives in Thailand to do so.

(Please consult the procedure with the officer at your District Office)

–  If the District Officer permits the case of power of attorney, you may consult and make an appointment to request such a document on https://appointmentthaiembassybrs.simplybook.it/v2/#book  and https://www.thaiembassy.be/legalisation-and-document-services/ or email to consular.brs@mfa.go.th for further enquiries.


2. Minors aged from 7 years old but not over 20 years old

2.1 Minors aged from 7 years old but not over 20 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Never have a Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card

Answer  =    Applicants can only request the first Thai passport.

If you wish to request the next passports, the Thai parent must register the minor in his/her Thai House Registration and request the first Thai ID card ( which can only be requested in Thailand)

2.2 Minors aged from 7 years old but not over 20 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Already had the first Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card

Answer     =   Applicants cannot request a new passport.

Suggestion  =    The Thai parent must register the minor in his/her Thai House Registration and request the first Thai ID card ( which can only be requested in Thailand) in order for the applicant to be eligible to apply for a new passport.

2.3 Minors aged from 7 years old but not over 20 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Already had the first Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card  but are studying abroad

Answer  =   Applicants can request a new passport by providing a student status certificate/attestation issued by their institution

–    The certificate/attestation must be in English or Thai. If it is in other languages than the two mentioned, it must be translated by a sworn translator and duly legalised. Please consult the procedure on https://www.thaiembassy.be/2021/08/24/legalisation/?lang=en.

Suggestion =  The Thai parent should register the minor in his/her Thai House Registration or make a power of attorney to authorise relatives in Thailand to do so.

2.4   Minors aged from 7 years old but not over 20 years old  

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Already had the first Thai passport
  • Already been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Already have a Thai ID card  but the title does not correspond with the current title/ is not updated (For the case of applicants aged from 15 years old) . As stipulated by  law, the title of both boys and girls will be changed.

 

Answer  =  The Thai ID card must be renewed (see: https://appointmentthaiembassybrs.simplybook.it/v2/#book ), and then applicants will be eligible to request a new passport.


3. Applicants aged over 20 years old

3.1   Applicants aged over 20 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Already had the first Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card 

Answer  =  Applicants cannot request a new ordinary passport unless they are registered in their Thai House Registration and request the first Thai ID card ( which can only be requested in Thailand).

If you need to travel to Thailand, please contact passport.brs@mfa.go.th around 2 months before your intended travel date for more information.

3.2  Applicants aged over 20 years old

  • Already in possession of a Thai Birth Certificate
  • Already had the first Thai passport
  • Have been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card

Answer  =  Applicants cannot request a new ordinary passport unless they request the first Thai ID card ( which can only be requested in Thailand).

  • Have just registered their birth at the Royal Thai Embassy
  • Never have the first Thai passport
  • Never been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card 

Answer  =    Applicants can only request the first ordinary Thai passport (5-year validity).

If you wish to request the next passports, they must register  in the Thai House Registration and request the first Thai ID card ( which can only be requested in Thailand)

3.4  Applicants aged over 20 years old

  • Never have the first Thai passport
  • Have been registered in the Thai House Registration
  • Never have a Thai ID card 

Answer  =    Applicants can only request the first ordinary Thai passport (5-year validity).

If you wish to request the next passports, they must request the first Thai ID card ( which can only be requested in Thailand)

3.5  Applicants aged over 20 years old

  • Have had Thai passports before
  • Have been registered in the Thai House Registration
  •  Have a Thai ID card but the card has not expired more than 3 years and the personal information can be found on the system

Answer =  Applicants can request a new passport if the picture on the system can be identified/matches the applicants.

Suggestion  = Also make an appointment online for ID card renewal

3.6  Applicants aged over 20 years old

  • Have had Thai passports before
  • Have been registered in the Thai House Registration
  •   a Thai ID card has expired for long time and the personal information cannot be found on the system

Answer =  Applicants cannot request a new passport, since a new ID card is required ( renewal can only be done in Thailand).  (*EP/ETD) or  applicants can consult with passport.brs@mfa.go.th for more details about such a case.
