FratiniVergano, EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), Thai-European Business Association (TEBA) in partnership with the Office of Commercial Affairs in Brussels, Ministry of Commerce and the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels / Mission of Thailand to the EU are pleased to invite you to participate in the Business Roundtable on Sustainability in EU-Thailand Trade Relations, which will take place virtually on 29 September 2021, 10.00-11.00 CET (15.00-16.00 Bangkok), online via Zoom.
In today’s evolving trade and investment environment, Sustainable Development, Sustainable Corporate Governance and Responsible Business Practices are no longer an option for business. They are increasingly both requirements and opportunities for businesses to become more productive and resilient. In 2020 the European Commission launched a legislative initiative on ‘Sustainable Corporate Governance’ with the objective of encouraging business “to frame decisions in terms of environmental (including climate, biodiversity), social, and human impact for the long-term, rather than on short-term gains”. The European Parliament adopted a Resolution, in March 2021, with recommendations on Corporate Due Diligence and Corporate Accountability. The Commission is expected to publish a legislative proposal in the coming months.
This Business Roundtable is a timely opportunity to discuss how Sustainability trends and the forthcoming EU legislation can be opportunities for Thai businesses to grow and boost their trade and investment relations with the EU. Thailand is one of the important investment destinations for European businesses within ASEAN and is a key player and committed partner to contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and to promote socially responsible business practices in the regional and global supply chains.
