Ambassador of Thailand Led the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) on a Working Visit to Antwerp

On 26 November 2021, H.E. Mr. Sek Wannamethee, Ambassador of Thailand and Chair of the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC), led the ASEAN Ambassadors and officials on a working visit to Antwerp where they visited the Port of Antwerp and later participated in a Business Seminar on Opportunities in ASEAN hosted by the Flemish Chamber of Commerce (VOKA)

On their visit to the Port of Antwerp, the ASEAN Ambassadors and delegation met with Mr. Kristof Waterschoot, Managing Director, Port of Antwerp International, and his team and was briefed on its background, activities and management. Thereafter, the Ambassadors embarked on a sightseeing boat tour to the various aspects of the Port during which Mr. Waterschoot hosted a working lunch for the ABC delegation. They discussed ways on promoting cooperation between ASEAN and the Port Antwerp, including strengthening trade and investment as well as exchanging best practices in terms of port management and personnel development.

Following the visit to the Port of Antwerp, the ASEAN Ambassadors participated in a Business Seminar under the theme “International Entrepreneurship Week: Opportunities in ASEAN”, hosted by VOKA. On this occasion, the Ambassador of Thailand gave the opening remarks on the economic potential and dynamism of ASEAN, and opportunities arising from the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership. Participants, which consisted of about 60 entrepreneurs and representatives from the private sector, discussed their experiences and exchanged views on how to strengthen trade and investment between ASEAN and Belgium.  In addition, the Ambassadors of ASEAN met and strengthened their networks with the Belgian private sector.
